Vocal Play – A Day Workshop in Vocal Improvisation

An invitation to reconnect with your voice through play, presence, and deep listening.

Join Ruana Xerri-West, founder of The Song of Now, assisted by Siobhan Nolan, for a gently guided and playful exploration of vocal improvisation in a warm and inclusive space.

Through simple, joyful exercises we’ll explore the many colours of the human voice — breath, tones, textures, rhythms, and spontaneous song. You’ll be invited to experiment, respond, and discover what emerges when the voice is given permission to be curious and free.

We will play inclusive vocal games where everyone has the choice to be however they want to be in the moment. Together we’ll create a space where sound can move through the body and where voices can meet, overlap, echo and play. Some moments may be lively and expressive, others quiet and reflective. There will be opportunities to sing with others, listen deeply, and allow your voice to surprise you.

The day draws on somatic vocal practices, supporting you to notice how sound resonates through the body and how your voice naturally shifts in response to presence, space, and connection.

Whether your voice feels confident or shy, structured or spontaneous, you are welcome here.

You will be held in a supportive environment where there is space both to rest in comfort and gently explore the edges of your vocal expression. No previous experience is needed — just curiosity and a willingness to listen.
