Intuisound meets Lari Finocchiaro (Workshop-concert)

We are happy to announce our partnership with Lari Finocchiaro in the Workshop-concert Asalato and voice: Brazilian Songs and Rhythms.

Dedicated to Brazilian music for 18 years, her work includes original projects like her debut album Carta ao XXI and her pioneering research on Asalato and Voice with Brazilian songs and rhythms. She is also active in São Paulo's improvisation and body music scene with the Kundengo collective, having participated in projects with Fernando Barba and Música do Círculo. She was a singer in the OVO show by Cirque du Soleil on an international tour across more than 10 countries.

The asalato (as it is known in Japan and Brazil) is an instrument of African origin, specifically from the West African region, common in countries such as Ghana, Mali, Ivory Coast, Senegal, and Burkina Faso. Lari Finocchiaro was a pioneer in using and adapting the instrument as accompaniment to Brazilian songs and rhythms and, since 2016, has carried out numerous initiatives, experiences, courses, workshops, and content production, bringing together the Brazilian and international community around the asalato.

What You’ll Experience:

We will explore basic techniques for the instrument and rhythms to play Afro-Brazilian styles such as ijexá, Coco, baião, Bumba meu Boi, ciranda, and samba, always connecting with the repertoire of Brazilian popular culture
The workshop aims to provide a musical experience centered around the human and collective connection that happens in a circle
Using tools from Música do Círculo, vocal games, and songs, we will create an open, generous, and inclusive learning space to experience music in a circle through asalato and voice.
Participants will receive a PDF booklet with the content covered.
Lari's concert features Brazilian songs, some of her own compositions and those of contemporary artists, along with unique reinterpretations of songs by Jacinto Silva, Djavan and Dominguinhos. The show is woven together with the artist's
