A gathering towards a community of practice

Join a gathering of artists, facilitators and practitioners working with embodied voice, vocal improvisation, body music, creative vocal practices and/or embodied music-making across Australia.

The Mycelium is part of the broader Australian Vocal Improvisation & Body–Voice–Music Community - a growing ecosystem of artists, facilitators, practitioners, students, participants and curious people connecting with this work.

Within this wider community, the Mycelium offers an intentional meeting place for practitioners and the many practices, gatherings, communities, generations and lineages that make up this field - a place where we can remain distinct while becoming more connected.

Across Australia we already have a rich field of practitioners, from freshies through to elders, offering classes and workshops, facilitating, researching, experimenting and making art.

What might happen if we had more spaces to come together intentionally - to play, share practice, facilitate for peers and colleagues, exchange ideas and experiences, support one another, make connections and strengthen the field?

What do we love about what we do?
What are the challenges, tensions and questions?
What are the connections between our different practices?
What are we discovering?
What do we want to celebrate?
What do we want to keep developing and bringing to our communities?
And how might we create more collaborations, make more art, support sustainable creative lives and help this rich field of practice continue to grow?

We know that people are already gathering, creating, collaborating and exchanging practices in many different ways across Australia. The Mycelium offers a place for these different threads to meet - connecting practices, gatherings, communities, generations and lineages while allowing each to retain its own identity.
