[Hamburg] Murmuration Playshop

An experiential laboratory that brings together voice, movement, and collective creativity, inspired by the floating, synchronized movements of flocks in flight.

Murmuration is an ensemble improvisation practice in which sound and movement emerge organically through fluid leadership, deep listening, peripheral awareness, and instant connection among participants. Through accessible, progressive exercises - from partner work to full-group dynamics - we will explore how to “become one body,” composing a living score in real time.

Led by Chiara Cortez, this experience offers an embodied and poetic approach to an art form that weaves together vocal improvisation, movement, and scenic elements. This playshop grows from Chiara’s personal integration of Murmuration as developed by Rhiannon, interwoven with her own ongoing research into collective creativity, embodied listening, and the cultivation of the collective mind and is meant to be a first introduction to the practice.

Through the shared flow of voice and gesture, participants will explore:
● unison and synchronization
● embodied listening and spatial presence
● spontaneous collective composition
● dynamic interactions between voice, movement, and scene
● the emergence of ensembles, sculptures, solos, and small mobile formations

The laboratory focuses on developing the collective mind, the fundamental quality that makes this form of improvisation possible: diffuse listening, a willingness to navigate between following and leading, and flowing together as a single creative organism.

No previous experience is required. However, this work invites a certain intimacy with others and asks for openness, presence, and a willingness to offer oneself to a form of deep attention. All that is needed is the desire to listen, move, and create together - staying open and curious to exploring our collective artistry through voice, movement, staging, and collective composition.
